Use this template to cut out the rabbet or recess on your router table to precisely fit your router table insert plate. This template has several rings to help cut the recess and fully cut the center section in two steps so your insert plate fits perfectly. It will fit standard size insert plates measuring 11.75" x 9.25", including Wood Grain Junkie's DualFit Pro® Aluminum and Acrylic Router Mounts.
We realize making a large cutout on your newly built router table can be intimidating, but with our template you can easily make this cut stress-free. There are two steps to using our template:
- Use the outer ring and center section to plunge cut the recess taking several passes.
- Insert the second ring and plunge through to fully cut the center section. The thinnest ring is only used for alignment and provides a gap for your plunge bit on the second step. Just make sure to use double sided tape to hold down your template at every step.

I’ve used the 11-3/4” x 9-1/4” Rabbet/Recess Cutout Template a few times now for cutting recesses for router table insert plates, including my table saw wing and a couple other builds. It’s straightforward to use and does exactly what it’s supposed to do, making the process much more accurate and repeatable.
One small improvement I’d suggest is adding centerline or guide marks on the template and edges. That would make it easier to align with layout lines and center it before routing.
Overall, a simple, effective jig that saves time and helps achieve clean, consistent recess cuts.
I template worked awesome, but when I routed out the center I didn’t have a 1/4” top bearing bit. SO, I used what I had available and gouged out part of the template.
My mistake & now I need to do a bit of repair on the recessed cut.
This was my Christmas gift from my kids. What a Great product. Very simple to assemble even for beginners like me with the use of the videos. You did a great job with the videos too. I also purchased the fence system. Also very easy to do. This product is the best for small shop spaces like mine. What else can I say but, thank you Wood Grain Junkie for all you do. I highly recommend to BUY this product.

Template let me accurately cut a recess for my router lift. Jessem Mast-R-Lift fits like a glove. There is zero slop, only enough clearance to get it in and out. An instruction sheet might have been helpful, but a halfway experienced woodworker can probably figure it out. The template looks like MDF from the pictures, but it is actually a high-quality acrylic with a brown protective layer on both sides. Much more durable.
I didn't think it was going to work out. I was surprised with it and how easy it was to work with.
The template was sized perfectly to the insert plate and the instructional video made using it straight forward and simple.
This is a well made product but it is not a great fit for the JessEm 3.5XT lift with phenolic plate. After cutting my table, I discovered there isn't enough material left in the corners to allow for installation of threaded inserts to secure the plate to the table. Perhaps other plates have the corner screws located closer to the outer edges of the plate. I had to glue up some blocks in the corners to give me enough meat to install the plate. Also, I was hoping for a tighter fit. I'm getting 5 playing cards width of horizontal slop and 6 playing cards width of vertical slop. No doubt its a great product but just not great for my application.
I bought this template to go with router table top but was disappointed that the template is not same size as the routerctop
It worked just like it was supposed to. Cut a perfect recess for my router lift.
I am all but new to routing. Instructions were easy to follow, and this did not take long to put onto/ into my work table. This sure beats my Craftsman router table that I rarely used.
Time to get to work!

The template I received was expertly designed and crafted, it couldn’t have been any easier to route out the opening on a router table I made using this template, under 15 minutes from start to finish, that’s including changing out router bits. Great product. Perfect fit for my Jessem router lift.
I used this to expand the opening on my MDF Rockler router table top to fit my Jessem lift. I tried to make plywood templates but they always turned out horrible. Ordered this template expecting just the two pieces pictured but it came with a stack of four nesting templates. The outer two were perfect for what I needed! I cut out the larger hole for the lift plate with a flush trim bit then used the same flush trim bit to clear the inner excess with the next smaller template. I'll definitely keep this seller on my go-to list!

1 false move and the template is done for. The acrylic template is great but not forgiving. My router bit was just a hair off the mark and destroyed the edge of the template. Needless to say, for the price of them template, shipping time etc. I wasn't going to buy another at the risk of this happening again. I used a metal guide in the places where the template was compromised to finish the insert cutout.

I think its a pretty smart design. I like the multiple rings to keep router in control. However, I was using this to do a trial cut first as I am not a router expert by any means. Good thing. I plunged a bit too much in the first pass and my router cut into the template. My outer ring is damaged. Its clearly my fault but I got our thinking there must be a better way. Looks like I may have to shell out for another template. Would be 5 stars if I got this right. :-(
