Aluminum Router Mount FAQs

Q: Do I need an aluminum insert plate if I already have an acrylic one?

A: While our Acrylic Router Base Plates are wonderful for smaller router jobs, aluminum’s enhanced durability helps stability and precision, making it a solid upgrade for a wider range of projects.

Q: What kind of projects is the aluminum insert plate best for?

A: The durable design of this plate lends itself to more robust projects and larger router bits, making it great for heavy-duty jobs and things like flush trimming.

Q: Can I use this plate as a cantilever router table?

A: While it’s technically possible, we recommend using the aluminum insert plate specifically for router tables and custom-made bench-top router tables to ensure optimal performance and safety. We recommend using trim routers with any cantilever set up, as full-size routers are too heavy to safely operate in a cantilever style bracket.

Q: If I purchased the acrylic version, will this one fit?

A: Yes, the aluminum insert plate will fit the recess cutout of your router table. However, you'll need to install the included 1/8” shims to raise the plate to the correct height, as the aluminum plate is 1/4” thick compared to the 3/8” thickness of the acrylic plate.

Q: What’s the size of the center router bit hole?

A: The center hole diameter is 1-1/2”, accommodating router bits up to 1-1/4” in diameter. This provides ample space for a variety of router bits.
